All my sundays will be break days!

4 min read

This morning, I woke up panicked at 10 am, thinking I was getting a call, while it was my imagination- there was no call, no missed calls, and no missed notifications as well. It was Sunday, and I guess most people were relaxing.

Later in the day, I was told by my partner how I have not been attentive enough while she was telling me about something that happened at work two days ago, and it meant a lot to her.

I remembered the story, with the characters and the concerns, but I wasn't fully attentive. And when I heard her talk about this, I realized how I am missing out on the good parts in my life and failing the people that love me and matter to me.

So, I told myself and her- I won't work on Sundays. I will rather relax and blow off the heat from across the week.

Now, she knows work has been busy lately. And she knows I like to fix problems at work. So, she said I don't have to do this Sunday off thing just because of one incident. And I agreed, but here's what I said-

"Yes, I don't have to do this, but it's super important at this point. It's not just about me not being attentive on one instance. When you brought this up today, I took a long deep breath and recapped my past 3 weeks- I have really been lost in thoughts wondering how I can make work better, how I can refine my product, how I can optimize my outreach, and what campaign can get the best results for my clients.

Honestly, everytime I run across everything that's happening at the same time, I feel like taking another long deep breath in.

And I realize that this is not the way. This is not the way to achieve what I want to achieve. Staying put and dedicated to a goal is one thing, but staying in survival mode at all times shrinks you down and strips you off your creativity.

So, Sundays must be off days."

And then she went- you may switch off your laptop, but how will you switch off your mind?

Emotional damage!

So, we both laughed and I said, I'll do it. It'll happen.

And then, I headed to the kitchen to make us good cups of matcha out of our failed brand trial with Ms Sanya.

It landed well, especially with the cheese cake, our homemade idli shakshuka, iced tea, and the perfect sun burning the marble yellow.

The rest of the afternoon, the both of us laid down in the hall, on the floor, with the fan on, and sunlight literally dancing across the room.

I felt healed and got the sight to look at all the good that's there in my life.

I have an amazing car. I own all the gadgets that make me money (in fact more than what make me money). I can read, write, journal, and meditate for my mental health. I have a gym membership that allows me at 2 am and 2 pm with open arms. I have all the protein that I could want to have. And I have the best people I never thought I'd have. What a blessing!

Honestly, running behind one goal after another drains you so well, you only realize the true nature once you stop to take a breather. I'm glad I decided to rest today.

The day ended with a cleanup

My room needed a mini makeover and I had also started getting bored of the same view that I'd been looking at for more than a year now.

So, I emptied my table and decided to change its position.

This is how it looked an hour ago.

And this is how it looks now-

Now, here's one thing I'm worried about-

My mother wakes up in the morning and gets angry because now the room is too messy and cluttered in her view.

But, I love it a lot. It's more private. Gives me more control. Helps me focus better. And of course, we all like a little change once in a while.

Sunday went pretty well. That Idli Shakshuka was the best thing I ate all day, matcha could be the second.

I'm tired enough to sleep now. I'll see you tomorrow- goodnight!
