CTA, Hook, Heading, Subject Line- Dream Catchers

3 min read

Every single word that goes into your marketing can make or break your campaign.

If your video has no hook, only a few people will stop to watch it. If your CTA isn't strong, only a few people may click through it. If the first fold of your landing page does not address your dream customer's key problem or their dream outcome, many of them will never scroll enough to know about your amazing offer. Similarly, if your offer or presentation is weak, you will hardly convert leads into sales (one of my clients got 55 leads in 30 days and none of them converted- see what was missing).

And, it's all content. All words.

And why am I sharing this with you?

Last week my great friend and CA reached out to me asking for my Mutual Funds P&L Tax Statement for FY 2025-26, so he could file our return. My bad, I forgot about it completely and got busy with the new project we just got!

Today, he texted me this-

cas-perfect-cta

The texts translate like this-

CA- Share the mutual funds documents, your income tax refund will come

Me- Great CTA sir, sending it right now

When I read the text that said- my income tax refund amount will come, and this was being said by my CA- who I trust with my finances, my first reaction was, he is looking after me and is concerned about my company's filing and refunds.

And then my second reaction was forming the image and feeling the emotion of the refund arriving- free money, isn't it?

This was my desired outcome and he nailed it perfectly- hit right where it mattered.

So, today, without fail, I took out 20 minutes and sent him the documents. The filing was complete, he told me the amount that will come, and we both shared a good conversation for the next 20 minutes discussing the new advances in the company, the ideas I am working on, and how we are planning to move ahead.

With conversation and CTAs, I can recall another moment when an attention seeking attempt failed at us!

My former mentor advised me to place a typo in my subject line.

I was nervous and he was confident.

His logic was that when people see a mistake, their first reaction at times is to correct it. Now, even if they don't go on to reply to you, at times, they may read through the email.

Honestly, now this makes no sense to me.

Now, I realize that if a person has opened my email just to find more mistakes or in the curiosity of finding me doing something stupid, the outreach campaign where I ask them for something may be set to fail.

At that time however, I was happy to go ahead with it.

The campaign got 3 replies in the 600 emails that we sent.

We secured one backlink after outreaching an enormous list. While this was my first and only effort at email outreach, I decided to not do it for a long time.

Until, I gave it another chance while reaching out to clinics, selling ClinicsRush's RRF System.

And that was when I realized that not email marketing, but stupid tactics that get the wrong kind of attention don't work.

My new email subject line told the receiver how one of their well performing competitors was doing so well, because they were ahead of them in one area. Now, this specific problem was what my RRF solved (still solves, check it out at ClinicsRush).

And this campaign got a reply rate of 4.4%.

In this campaign, I cold emailed 609 clinics and 27 of them responded. Which was 900% of what we got in the typo attempt.

If you wanna know the exact outreach strategy I took, type a comment. Once it starts getting noisy, I'll reveal it in a new blog.

For now, that is all. I'll be back tomorrow! Bye Bye! Goodnight!
