Free Backlinks- Part 2

Quick recap- In the last part, I told you how I built a small venture for clearing my exams in college and did so with a bunch of other guys who were struggling to pass, and how the project gained natural backlinks, automatically from ITTKGP and INSD's official edu domains.

Now, cut to 2026- I built my first tool earlier in August and started the outreach within the first week. The goal was to start getting backlinks. Not 2, not 5, not 10- just start at least.

So, this is what I did-

1. I exported the list of keywords I want to rank for.
2. Starting with the first 5 keywords, I exported deeper lists of blogs that are already ranking for these main keywords.
3. And I sent outreach emails, with three follow ups to all these blogs.

Except, I automated most of the process. Wrote the subject line once. Wrote the email body and follow ups once. And then I fed all these steps into an AI agent that scrapes websites, finds emails, sends them my messages, and has gotten me 1 backlink every week.

And the good part- 2 out of these three backlinks were free mentions from web pages that were already ranking for my target keywords.

As a result, my website has started ranking for many of my target keywords.

By now, I have sent less than 300 emails and have received 9 responses at a flat 3% response rate. Out of these 9 responses, I qualified 4 offerings- 3 of those links are live and the remainder has already been submitted by me and should be live soon.

Budget-

I have spent a total of $25 for one of these links, that too because the blogger was nice and offered real value- his website gets around 500 daily visitors from the US, his traffic has grown constantly over the past year, his website had no content about any banned niches (I'll tell you these on call), and he asked me for $25, which seemed like a fair price that I could comfortably pay for this link- so I paid.

The remaining three links are no less- they come from websites with clean profiles, I have written 0 new blogs to get these backlinks, and they are free for me, only because the bloggers offered to use my tool and mention it for free, only if it was relevant to their audience.

That's where the money was saved- I did thorough research before I asked them for a backlink from one of their blog posts. This research helped me ensure that the person on the receiving end had to spend 0 minutes figuring out where my link and sentence goes.

As a result, whenever I asked for a link and the blogger asked to use my tool, the tool was so relevant that they knew they had to write about it.

The journey to building and scaling backlinks is still on-going. After I finish publishing this blog, I'll be replying to another response waiting in my inbox and try to secure another great link.
